| Ian Bradshaw: Winning knock for Windies |
 |
West Indies finished on 218/8 to beat England by two wickets and claim the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy at The Oval on Saturday.
England crashed to a humiliating final defeat as the West Indies pulled off one of the great comebacks in one-day history.
The ninth-wicket pair Courtney Browne and Ian Bradshaw somehow combined to steer their side home in near darkness in south London.
Brian Lara's side were all but beaten when they came together in the 34th over with the score 147 for eight, still 71 runs short of victory.
But they could not be separated despite the best efforts of Steve Harmison, who produced a delivery clocked at 96.9mph, and Andrew Flintoff, whose three-wicket burst had decimated the Windies' top order.
They even declined an offer to go off for bad light, made by umpires Rudi Koertzen and Simon Taufel with the score 183 for eight after 43 overs.
Bradshaw vindicated the decision moments later when he struck Paul Collingwood for two fours in the following over.
And the half-century stand arrived from 71 deliveries as their clever strokeplay and patient approach got them into the final five overs, from which they required 24.
Bradshaw smashed Alex Wharf through point for four in the 49th over before being mobbed by his jubilant team-mates who ran from the pavilion.
Bradshaw finished unbeaten on 34 with Browne, who was born a couple of miles down the road in Lambeth, 35 not out - both of which were personal best scores.
The West Indians danced on the outfield in an outpouring of emotion, having been drubbed by Vaughan's men throughout the year in Test cricket.
