SOUTH AFRICA SQUAD

Robin Peterson

Eastern Province
Left-hand bat
Slow left-arm orthodox
Born: 4 August 1979

Peterson is a competitive cricketer who contributes to the team in all departments.

His primary strength is his bowling, which shows a level of guile and wicket-taking ability not often seen amongst SA spinners. Peterson's main allay is his accuracy, but he also turns the ball and has developed a useful arm ball.

The EP allrounder is a hard hitting batsman, who can hold an innings together in the lower-order, or go in early and blaze away at the new ball bowlers. His flexibility is a useful asset in the unpredictable world of limited-overs cricket.

Peterson is also blessed with remarkable fielding ability. He is very quick over the ground and can throw with either hand, which makes him a great threat to batsmen attempting quick singles.

Peterson has shown some of his best form for his province and for SA "A." He is yet to translate that first-class form into noteworthy performances at international level. With Nicky Boje firmly ensconced in the national team, it is unlikely that he will have much opportunity to do so in the World Cup. However, there could be few better stages for the determined allrounder to come of age.
