Bad light leaves bad taste Hopefully one thing will come out of the farce of an Ashes fifth Test, and that is maybe crickets administrators will drag themselves from the stone-age and give its life-long and new found followers value for money.
It is simply not acceptable that so much time can be lost to play as a result of weather or slow play, and no real effort be made to make it up. It may not always make a difference but everything must be done to try.
Why cant the available hours of play be from nine AM to seven PM on any day of the Test (i.e start at nine AM and bowl 90 overs in a day for a change). If any overs from the previous day are lost then these can be made up after the 90 overs are bowled, up until seven PM.
If the ground has lights, they should be used in order to allow play to continue within the permitted hours.
Cricket cant afford to continue to sit on its hands over this matter. It may not be such an issue in England after the fifth Test, but if the shoe was on the other foot, many people (especially newly captured fans), would find it unacceptable in the modern era of sport.
It wont be so enjoyable next time if the Aussies walk off for bad-light to win The Ashes, and we have all paid sky to watch it! Anthony McCarney
